The WIT approach

Top performance in combat is winning. It occurs when the brain is responsive, strategic, and decisive, and makes the best use of the physical resources.

Combat is complex and demanding, and contrary to the popular belief, it’s not the body that tires out first. That is why the WIT Combat Sport Coach certification program focuses on the psychological aspects of fight rather than body conditioning—top body condition is irrelevant if one is choked out within 20 seconds.

For enrollment

Entry
requirements.

#1.
25+ age

Because reflective capabilities develop in the early 20s, allowing one to see beyond their own context and grasp complex life dynamics needed to meaningfully help fighters.

#2.
2+ years combat sport training history

Because the course teaches how to guide fighters towards winning, as opposed to teach how to fight, and so requires to already be familiar with the context of combat sports.

Content

The Modules.

Module 1

The influence, responsibility, and support range of a coach.

Learn the most fundamental aspect of coaching: the impact you have on your trainees, and the conscious and unconscious ways you influence. You’ll see behind the myth of learning styles, understand how the concept of mindset oversimplified, and discover the significance of attribution styles.

Module 2

Strategizing and delivering feedback

Learn how feedback impacts motivation and what are the most effective forms and methods to deliver even the most uncomfortable ones. You will receive clear guideline on how to praise, how to respond to mistakes, how to address mindset challenges and promote brain and body plasticity for growth.

Module 3

The distinct nature of combative arts

Take a detailed look at the specifics of combative arts, stemming from their strictly interpersonal and threat with harm nature, which are uncharacteristic of other sports. You’ll also learn how to evaluate the best fighter-art fit, and adjust improve results when the fit is less than ideal.

Module 4

Training for winning: effective curriculum and class structure

Get to know the principles of creating class structures that support competition success systematically from its core components. You will gain insight into the impact and limitations of different drill and sparring styles on engraining techniques, and the myth about the length of time required to master an artform.

Module 5

Recognising and managing personality differences

Jump head first into the myth of normalcy and IQ, and gain an understanding of its definition as a statistically drawn mean average. You’ll also learn about core differences in learning and will gain practical skills in distinguishing between ego and complex outbursts with proper guidance on how to address them.

Module 6

The specifics of preparing for combat sport competitions

Dig further into the nuances of optimising the preparation routine for your competition team. You’ll gain insight into the differences between competition bouts and regular sparring, and will learn to recognize the most common barriers to competition success to address the potential root causes.

Module 7

Gender differences: managing multi-gender classes

Take a transformative look at the gender/sex dynamics that have a huge impact on both class retention and individual progress. You will learn the difference between stereotypes and prejudices and receive clear guidance to take the edge of the conflict and optimise your class for gender/sex parity.

Module 8

Understanding client context: stress types and buffers

Look into some latent but fundamental stress factors, including socioeconomic and psychological ones that impact your trainees chances. You’ll learn about the adaptive nature of stress, how to recognize the window of tolerance of your trainees and where to refer them if further support needed.

Module 9

Working with different age groups

Learn about the different abilities of different age groups, including the brain functions and motor skills that are available or not at a particular age. You’ll gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics and myths behind ageism, and receive clear recommendations on how to work with different age groups.

Module 10

Advanced training plans for physical conditioning

Take your training skills one step further with the most contemporary evidence-based conditioning routines. You will get to know periodised approaches that offer incremental loading strategies to keep training pressure under control and receive a template plans for BJJ, MMA, and Boxing.

Skyrocket your
coaching success.

In a world where everyone can claim to be a fight coach, only a few can actually transform fighters into champions.

Turned my head around

“Amazing content, it turned my head completely around. The depth of information was on a different level. The support team really knows their stuff. I've already put into practice what I've learned and my trainees are absorbing everything I say.”

Robert C. K.

Head coach

I'm becoming a real coach

“The reading material was well-organized and I enjoyed the explanatory videos. The course was more in-depth and complex than basic courses I took before but the result is incredible. I'm so confident now in approaching new clients. I know what signs to listen to, what they mean, and how to respond.”

Rosetta P.

Former MMA champion

The best course I took

“I felt completely like I was sitting in a graduate-level course, but I understood all the content, which I likely wouldn't in uni. I’d also like to say that yours is one of the best examples of course design, I am achieving a proper understanding of fight coaching and how I can do it really well.”

Why traditional coaching courses are failing combat sports professionals?

Because combat is not sport. There is no psychological similarity between running a marathon and being punched in the face. Different brain regions are involved, leading to different conditions and using different processing pathways.

Grow beyond thyself

Where general coaches see punches and kicks, you'll see patterns and possibilities.

The WIT advanced professional Combat Sport Coach certification course brings along cutting-edge knowledge to offer a combat sport-specific insight into how humans operate in a fight context and how they can be guided towards winning.

Our multi-disciplinary framework.

Learning psychology

Aligning with how the brain learns and recalls physical knowledge to allow for the curriculum or training regimen to promote muscle memory and physical confidence development.

Biomechanics & Combative arts

Movement systems like combative arts are founded on body alignment and movement principles, where identifying alignment issues is essential to maximise power output and reduce injury risk.

Cognitive-social sciences

Social influences, personality differences, and cultural biases fundamentally shape a trainee’s progress and require cultural sensitivity to recognise and address them.

Clinical psychology

Combat experience is filled with terror and trauma, working with these experiences requires a deep understanding of the process involved and referral paths available.

Are previous studies required to understand the materials?

The course does not require prior formal education. The materials are tailored to be graspable for people with different educational backgrounds, providing clear explanations of complex concepts.

However, it is necessary to have experience in combative arts, preferably with several years of training history, to maximize your learning gain. Having competition experience also can provide valuable context for your studies.

This course is strongly specialised in the context of fight sports, it does not replace training experience nor does it provide full context on sports in general. The focus of the program is to give practical, niche specific knowledge for those coming from general training, sport psychology or personal combat experience to be able to pave the path of winning for their clients.

Is there a time limit for completing the lessons?

There is no set time limit for completing the lessons. The average time a learner spends on a module is typically one week, within which the individual lessons may take longer or shorter depending on the amount of reflection required.

The aim is to incorporate the new knowledge, with the aid of video summaries, readings, downloadable infographics, and key point slides. It’s important to revisit them as much as necessary, as the module exam assesses applied understanding of the material rather than lexical knowledge of theories.

Do I have to complete all the modules to receive the certification?

Yes, the certification as a Combat Sport Coach is granted only after all the modules have been completed and each exam has been passed. The completion of individual modules is recognized by the issuing of a certificate of module completion.

Can I get a refund for the modules?

There is a 14-day no-question-asked money back guarantee for all courses on the platform, including individual modules and complete course packages. The guarantee ends when the learner takes the exam, including the exam preparation phase of a module. Once either the exam or exam preparation has been started, refunds are no longer available.

How long does it usually take to complete a module?

The average time a learner spends on a module is typically one week, but modules that contain more difficult concepts can take longer to grasp and prepare for the exam. It is uncommon, however, to spend more than 2-3 weeks on a module, unless personal circumstances arise. In case of a longer pause, make sure to refresh your learning by starting the module from the beginning as the content usually builds on earlier introduced concepts.

What is the typical time it takes to achieve certification?

The average time it takes to achieve certification is around 3 months. While the course can be completed in 8-10 weeks, learners tend to dedicate more time to exam preparation and reflection. It is not uncommon to take a brief break after 3-4 modules or halfway to recharge batteries. This is perfectly acceptable, as certification may not always be the main objective. Those who enrol in specific modules exclusively for the practical knowledge on that topic have the option not to proceed toward the full course completion.

Do I need to take the modules in the order they are listed?

The modules can be taken in the order that is most suitable for your personal circumstances. It’s up to you to enrol to whichever is necessary to effectively coach your current clients or address the most your current needs.

What happens if I fail all three exam attempts?

Failing all three exam attempts will require repurchase of the module.

The Combat Sport Coach certification course is built to ensure a credible educational path that distinguishes its graduates from the rest for being highly refined, emphatic, and particularly efficient. Accordingly, the exams are complex, have high benchmarks, and target the ability to apply knowledge instead of collecting theories.

If you’re not able to dedicate enough time to the course material, it’s advisable to take a brief break rather than attempting an exam without preparation. After the second failed attempt (in case of high risk of repeated fail, after the first one), you have the option to request a support call with one of the course leaders to uncover the challenges and help you find the best way to prepare for a successful exam.

Can I work as a trainer with this certification?

This certification is not a replacement for trainer qualifications, but rather a complement to them to enhance your support potential in fight contexts. To become a trainer, there are other courses better equipped to provide basic physical and nutrition knowledge.

If you look to enhance your trainer skills, the final module of this course can give you the combat relevant edge as it focuses on conditioning and provides contemporary training plans built specifically to combat athletes.

I am already certified as a sport psychologist. Is there any overlap between this course and the university curriculum?

The content of this course and sport psychology courses has very little overlap. As sport psychology is mostly concerned with group dynamics and non-threatening games where very different psychological processes dominate the outcome.

As a result, while some of the terms may be familiar, this course is not an equivalent of sport psychology courses, but rather provides further specialisation for those who have chosen combat sports as their niche. The course content revolves specifically around the deep interpersonal dynamics and distinct psychology of fight contexts, which is largely beyond the scope of sport psychology educational paths.
