Making of a champion — competition coaching program

Advanced, short-term coaching program designed for combat athletes to reach their competition goals.

4 weeks

The evolution of a pro

Bringing together the elements of winning from game plan to personality cards.

Program outcome

During the program, we develop a customised strategy that keeps your game together under pressure. Your training routine will also be optimised to speed up muscle memory formation, reduce combat stress, and decrease your response time in competition.

Goal of the program

The purpose of this program is to restructure and complete the technical, social, and personal components you have in the game to get better results for your competitive efforts. It is designed to be expandable where needed and start with a 4-week core module that provide immediate results that can fuel further refinement.

Work flow

The 4-week program flows through a series of steps. Starting from understanding your competition history, motivators and invisible psychological barriers. Followed by the review and adjustment of your training structure, drill patterns, and competition routine. Finally arriving at a tailored plan that puts your strengths to better use and makes up for the missing pieces.

The program

Structure.

Session 1 - Mapping

A foundational conversation about past competition experiences, the challenges faced, and insights gained from prior tournament experiences.

We’ll talk about your current training and competition preparation routine, the available resources, and the internal and external motivators that impact your game.

The mapping process continues after the session, where the findings are shared via a dedicated digital platform. In the upcoming sessions, we will address the dysfunctional pieces that were identified during this work.

Session 2 - Planning

We’ll dig deeper into the technical-psychological side of things and discuss the ways in which the brain learns and drives the body into certain direction in response to an invasion. With particular focus on muscle memory formation and the specialities of combat stress versus performance stress.

Your training plan will be discussed in great detail, and the outcome will involve re-designing drills to support skill retention. Safety exercises will be introduced and a training hierarchy for competitions will be established.

This phase contains a wide variety of informational materials, including readings and exercises that span the week and require active engagement.

Session 3 - Building

In this session, we analyse directly the competition patterns and the transition from training to competition. We’ll be discussing the variations in performance across different stakes and starting to build a custom toolkit to manage the competition environment, physiological changes and different opponent types.

Before the session, it is necessary to provide video references on a variety of past competitions, if they are available. The coach will conduct the analysis upfront and discuss it during the session.

Session 4 - Arriving

With the comprehensive understanding of your circumstances, in the last session we discuss your personalised competition preparation plan. The strategy will include both short-term, long-term, and on-the-spot methods. Where needed, further resources and support will be recommended.

The personal toolkit components will be subject to testing during the last week, with direct feedback exchange between you and the coach happening through the dedicated digital platform.

On-demand - Consolidating

Further sessions can be held to consolidate and refine the preparation strategy and follow up on the experience, taking into account what was discussed in the last session of the core program.

By this time, the change has already begun and the outcomes are evident in a more dominant game style, faster response, longer resistance, and higher scores.
